Plain-language change summary

The bill SB 600 has been revised to focus specifically on the preservation of biological evidence from criminal investigations and trials, and it introduces new responsibilities for the Secretary of Military Affairs and Public Safety. The earlier version, which addressed both preservation and disposal of biological evidence, has been streamlined to emphasize centralized storage and preservation methods for biological materials statewide, including a requirement to report proposals to state legislative leaders. This change is important because it aims to enhance the integrity and availability of critical evidence in criminal cases, which can impact justice outcomes.
