The bill SB 95 has been updated to lower the age at which a minor can request a security freeze on their credit report from 18 to 16 years old. This change is significant because it allows younger consumers better control over their credit information, helping to protect them from identity theft at an earlier age. Additionally, the bill clarifies the requirements for requesting a security freeze, including the proof of identification needed to process such requests. This adjustment is important for enhancing protections for young consumers in Virginia.
