Summary
Directs the State Department of Health (the Department) to adopt regulations regarding the use of gray water and rainwater. The regulations shall provide standards for the use of rainwater harvesting systems, which shall include systems that collect rainwater for use by commercial enterprises but do not provide water for human consumption. Such regulations shall not apply to nonpotable water, including graywater and rainwater, that is used by certain specified facilities. The bill also directs the Department to consider recognizing rainwater as an independent source of fresh water.

What changed in the latest version
8 added · 16 removedPlain-language change summary
The updated version of HB 192 removes a requirement that facilities using rainwater and gray water must operate on the same property or nearby land under common ownership as the treatment works. This change broadens the potential for facilities to utilize these water sources, as they are no longer restricted by property boundaries. This matters because it encourages more efficient water use across a wider range of facilities, promoting sustainability and potentially reducing water costs.
