Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to SB 5434 creates new opportunities for long-term mental health care by allowing community hospitals to provide these services, rather than relying solely on state hospitals. This shift is important because state hospitals currently do not have the capacity to meet the growing demand for mental health services, and care closer to home can better support patients and their families. Additionally, the amendment emphasizes that community hospitals can choose to take part in this system, which could lead to more localized and tailored care options for patients. Overall, these changes aim to improve access to mental health services and enhance the quality of care in the community.
