Plain-language change summary

The amended version of SB 273 specifies that local school boards must provide a minimum of 680 instructional hours for elementary school students and 375 hours for half-day kindergarten students in core subjects like English, math, science, and history. It also clarifies that unstructured recreational time can be included in the total instructional hours, but it must not exceed 15% of the total. This change is important because it establishes clear time requirements for core academic instruction while allowing some flexibility for play and physical activity, promoting a balanced approach to education.
