The updated version of Bill HB 2990 includes a plan to help reduce toll rate increases on the Tacoma Narrows Bridge by providing up to $85 million in state loans over the course of the debt repayment period. This change is important because it aims to protect toll payers from rising costs while still ensuring that necessary debt obligations are met. Additionally, it establishes a reporting requirement to keep the legislature informed about the financial status and needs of the toll system, which helps ensure fair rates for users. Overall, these changes aim to address the specific financial challenges faced by Tacoma Narrows Bridge users compared to those using other toll facilities in Washington.
