The recent amendment to Senate Bill 5340 clarifies the types of work that can be classified as "Class B elevator work," specifically allowing for minor alterations and the installation of private residential stairway chair lifts. This change is significant because it streamlines the permitting process by reducing the need for certain inspections, making it easier and potentially less costly for contractors to perform these specific jobs. The Department of Labor and Industries will conduct random inspections of Class B work to ensure compliance, enhancing safety while also promoting efficiency in the elevator work industry.
