Plain-language change summary

The revised version of Bill SB 5310 expands the post-retirement employment options for retired teachers by allowing them to work not just as substitute teachers but also as athletic coaches, mentors to new teachers, advisors in teacher preparation programs, or counselors. This change aims to utilize the experience and knowledge of retired educators in various supportive roles within schools. Importantly, the bill maintains the limit of 867 hours per year for this employment without impacting their retirement benefits, which helps ensure districts can access experienced staff without financial penalties for the retirees.
