The recent amendment to SB 5992 specifically targets the ownership and manufacture of bump-fire stocks, which are devices that allow semi-automatic firearms to shoot at rates similar to fully automatic firearms. Under the revised bill, it becomes illegal to manufacture, own, or sell a bump-fire stock, thus closing a loophole that previously allowed such devices. This change is significant as it aims to enhance public safety by controlling the legality of rapid-fire devices following concerns about their use in mass shootings.
