Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill SB 327 clarify and expand the definition of extortion to include threats involving sexual contact, sexual intercourse, or intimate images, making these actions subject to criminal penalties. Previously, the bill did not clearly specify these forms of extortion, which is important for addressing issues related to sexual harassment and exploitation. Additionally, the consequences for failing to successfully extort something of value have been changed from a misdemeanor to a felony, highlighting the seriousness of such threats. These changes aim to strengthen legal protections against coercive behaviors that can harm individuals.
