Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to Bill SB 359 changes the training requirements for mental hygiene commissioners in West Virginia. It eliminates the mandatory minimum of three days of training specific to mental health issues and addiction. This matters because it could affect the preparedness of these commissioners to handle sensitive cases involving involuntary hospitalization, potentially impacting the quality of care and legal processes for individuals experiencing mental health crises. Furthermore, the amendment allows the Supreme Court to define the training curriculum instead, which may lead to more standardized training practices.
