Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill SB 501 lowers the percentage of the final average salary that members can receive as an accrued benefit from two and three-quarters percent to two and one-quarter percent based on their years of credited service. This change is significant because it could result in lower retirement benefits for members, affecting their financial security in retirement. Additionally, the revised bill clarifies how various types of employment and military service impact eligibility for these benefits, ensuring that members are appropriately compensated for their service.
