Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to Bill SB 603 allows licensed professional counselors to conduct examinations for involuntary hospitalization when an individual is suspected of having a mental illness or addiction. This change is significant because it expands the pool of qualified professionals available to assist in these critical assessments, which can lead to timely interventions and potentially improve care for those in crisis. Additionally, the amendment ensures that counselors can only perform these examinations if they have received specific authorization from a court, maintaining a necessary level of oversight.
