Plain-language change summary

The amendment to HB 1458 changes the fees associated with processing concealed handgun permit applications. Specifically, it solidifies a $10 fee for the clerk and allows local law enforcement to charge up to $35 for their background checks, while the total processing fees for the application cannot exceed $50. Previously, the total fee limit was set at $15, meaning this amendment significantly increases the maximum fees that can be charged. This matters because it alters the financial burden on applicants seeking permits, likely making it more expensive for them to complete the process.
