Plain-language change summary

The latest version of Bill SB 574 includes a clarification that specifically states eligibility for certain provisions applies to individuals who are members or veterans of the armed forces, or recipients of military commendations. Additionally, it maintains the existing penalties for violations based on the value of stolen goods, distinguishing between felony charges for thefts valued at $1,000 or more and misdemeanor charges for those valued at $999 or less. This change reinforces support for military individuals while ensuring consistent penalties for theft, which matters because it helps uphold the law while recognizing the contributions of veterans.
