Plain-language change summary

The updated version of SB 331 includes a new section that clarifies how retirement benefits are calculated for members of the West Virginia Legislature and certain other part-time positions. Specifically, it states that individuals who become members of the retirement system after December 1, 2018, will earn one-fourth of a year of service credit for each full year they serve, rather than the prior one-day of service credit. This change is significant because it provides more substantial credit for legislative service, potentially encouraging participation in public service by improving retirement benefits for future legislators.
