Plain-language change summary

The amendment to Bill SB 441 introduces an additional tax of 0.75% on gross receipts for certain acute care hospitals, aimed at supporting a directed payment program for Medicaid. This tax will contribute to a dedicated fund called the Eligible Acute Care Provider Enhancement Account, ensuring that the money is specifically used for West Virginia Medicaid services. This change is important because it helps to ensure that funding is available to support healthcare providers and maintain essential medical services in the state. Additionally, the bill establishes clear guidelines on how the collected funds must be utilized, thereby promoting transparency in their use.
