The amendments to SB 6221 clarify the management and investment processes for the Washington Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) program. The bill now specifies that the governing board has the authority to oversee and contract with investment managers, ensuring that the program can adapt investment strategies to better meet the needs of eligible individuals. Additionally, it establishes that funds in these accounts are not considered state money, providing more security for account holders. These changes are important because they enhance transparency and flexibility in managing funds intended to support individuals with disabilities in achieving financial stability.
