The recent amendment to Bill HB 1027 clarifies the licensing requirements for surplus line brokers in Washington. It specifically ensures that non-resident brokers licensed in their home states are deemed qualified as long as their license is in good standing, simplifying the process for those moving to Washington. This change matters because it makes it easier for qualified brokers to operate in the state, potentially increasing competition and options for consumers seeking insurance. Additionally, the amendment emphasizes the responsibility of non-resident brokers to adhere to the same regulations as resident brokers, ensuring consistent oversight and accountability.
