What changed in the latest version

The revised version of Bill HB 396 simplifies the requirements for prescribers to query the prescription drug monitoring system. Previously, prescribers were required to query the system only under specific conditions—like first-time prescriptions and suspected abuse—while the new wording mandates that they must check the system every time a controlled substance is prescribed. This change is significant because it aims to improve patient safety by enhancing oversight on prescription practices and helping to prevent drug abuse more effectively.
