The recent amendments to SB 497 included a redefinition of "current generation iron and steel slag" to now "current generation blast furnace, iron and steel slag," which emphasizes the specific context in which this material is generated. Additionally, the definitions related to "processing" have been clarified, broadening what methods can be considered acceptable for managing waste. These changes matter because they enhance the regulation of waste materials generated by steel mills and ensure that the methods for processing waste are up-to-date, potentially improving environmental safety and efficiency.
