Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill HB 85 clarify the process for exempting students from Keystone Exam testing based on philosophical objections from their parents or guardians. The bill now specifies that school authorities must determine whether to adopt a policy for these exemptions within 180 days, and if they do not, students can still be excused. Additionally, it emphasizes that students will not face negative consequences, such as losing their high school diploma, for opting out of the exams. This matters because it provides clearer guidelines for schools and ensures that parental rights regarding education are better supported.
