The recent amendments to Bill SB 922 changed the terminology from "substance use disorder" to "substance abuse" throughout the text, and clarified that eligible providers must be capable of administering FDA-approved nonnarcotic medications for treatment. This shift emphasizes a more precise medical approach to treatment and ensures that only licensed organizations handle assessments and treatment plans, which could improve the quality and consistency of care for individuals struggling with addiction. These changes matter because they could lead to better outcomes for those seeking help by promoting evidence-based treatment practices.
