Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Assembly Bill No. 541 change the allocation of funds for court-appointed legal representation for individuals who cannot afford it. Previously, costs were covered by the Office of State Public Defender; now, they will be allocated to the Department of Indigent Defense Services. This is significant because it shifts the financial responsibility and may affect the availability of legal resources for indigent defendants. Overall, these updates aim to ensure that individuals facing serious criminal charges still have access to legal support, regardless of their financial situation.
