The latest version of Bill AB 516 has made some important adjustments. It broadens the scope to include "local educational agencies" more explicitly, rather than just “school districts” and “charter schools." Additionally, it emphasizes the need for the Department of Health and Human Services to apply for federal authority related to primary care and preventative services, ensuring better support for Medicaid reimbursement in school-based health centers. These changes matter because they aim to improve access to health services for children in schools and ensure that educational institutions can receive adequate funding for these services.
