and W HEREAS , Barbara’s commitment to public service and pursuing justice blossomed while in law school, where she founded the Public Interest Law Organization and, after graduating, the Domestic Violence and Children’s Attorneys Project, the first legal program to specifically assist victims of domestic violence and abuse in Clark County;
and - *AR8* – 2 – W HEREAS , Barbara’s legal career advanced in 1996 when she was named Executive Director of Clark County Legal Services, now the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to justice for low-income children and adults in Clark County;
and W HEREAS , During her legislative tenure, Barbara advanced women’s participation in Nevada politics, making history by becoming the first woman to serve as Majority Floor Leader, from 2001- 82nd Session (2023) – 2 – to 2007, and the first woman to serve as Speaker, from 2007 to 2010;
now, therefore, be it RRESOLVED ESOLVED BY THE AASSEMBLY SSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF N EVADA , That for her 16 years of service in the Assembly and for her steadfast dedication to the State of Nevada, Barbara E.
and be it further RRESOLVED ESOLVED , That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit a copy of this resolution to former Assemblywoman Barbara E.
and be it further RRESOLVED ESOLVED , That this resolution becomes effective upon adoption.
