The recent amendments to Senate Bill No. 5 expand the ways the Division of Emergency Management can use funds from the Emergency Assistance Account. Previously, spending was limited to providing emergency assistance or covering administrative costs during declared emergencies. The change allows the Division to use funds for emergency management expenses even when there is no official emergency declaration. This is significant because it enables quicker and more flexible responses to potential crises, ensuring preparedness even before a situation escalates.
