Existing law creates the Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission, consisting of nine members appointed by the Governor.
(NRS 289.500) This bill,bill increases the membership of the Commission to 11 members and requires the Majority Leader of the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly each to appoint one member who is not a peace officer and who has demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas:
and (4) working Majoritywith Leadercertain ofvulnerable thepopulations. Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly to consider thee racial, gender and ethnic diversity of the Commission when making appointments to the Commission.
This bill also requires the Governor, the racial, gender and ethnic diversity of the Commission when making appointments to the Commission.

(Deleted by amendment.) Sec.
The Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission, consisting of [nine] 11 members [appointed by the - *AB111_R1* – 2 – Governor,] is hereby created.
(a) Two members from Clark County, one of whom must be from a metropolitan police department created pursuant to chapter 280 of NRS if one exists in Clark County;
The Majority Leader of the Senate and the Speaker of the Assembly shall each appoint to the Commission one member who - 81st Session (2021) – 2 – is not a peace officer.

Members of the Commission serve terms of 2 years.
Section 2.5 of this act becomes effective upon passage and approval for the purposes of appointing members to the Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission pursuant to - *AB111_R1* – 3 – subsection 2 of NRS 289.500, as amended by section 2.5 of this act and on July 1, 2021, for all other purposes.
