The bill revises provisions related to special license plates, particularly for government vehicles used in investigations, ensuring they bear no distinguishing marks and are subject to confidentiality regarding their issuance.

  • NRS 482.368

must bear any distinguishing mark which would serve to identify the vehicles as owned by the → must not bear any distinguishing mark which would serve to identify the vehicles as owned by the State, county or city.

This change clarifies that vehicles used for investigations must not have identifiable markings.

  • NRS 482.368

the special license plates issued for vehicles used by certain governmental entities for certain purposes → such license plates are issued annually for $12 per plate or, if issued in sets, per set.

This establishes a regular renewal fee for special license plates.

  • NRS 482.368

the provisions apply to vehicles maintained for and used for investigations and undercover investigations conducted by investigators of certain governmental entities. → must be returned immediately to the Department when the vehicle for which the special license plate was issued ceases to be used for the investigation or undercover investigation for which the special license plate was issued.

This requires that special plates be returned when no longer used for their intended investigatory purpose.

  • NRS 482.368

the information pertaining to the issuance or renewal of a license plate pursuant to paragraph (e) of subsection 2 is confidential → and requires the Department to securely maintain such information.

This ensures confidentiality for the issuance of special plates for government investigations.

  • NRS 482.369

must not be confusingly similar to the combinations prescribed by NRS 482.270, 482.2705 and 482.274. → does not apply to license plates issued to certain governmental entities for certain purposes that must not bear any distinguishing marks which would serve to identify the vehicles as owned by the State, county or city.

This exception clarifies that distinguishing mark requirements do not apply to certain governmental special plates.

  • NRS 482.265

Each license plate issued must be reissued every 8 years at the time of renewal → such license plates issued to certain governmental entities are excluded from the 8-year reissuance requirement.

This amendment allows certain government-issued special plates to bypass the reissuance timeframe.
