The updated version of Assembly Bill No. 235 now requires all school districts, along with certain charter and private schools, to help students and their families with filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). It mandates that these schools hold at least two events each year specifically for 12th-grade students and their families, where they can receive assistance with the FAFSA process. Additionally, schools must report details to the State Treasurer, including attendance at these events and the number of families receiving help. This change is significant because it aims to improve access to financial aid for education, ensuring that more students can afford to pursue postsecondary education.
