The recent amendments to Assembly Bill No. 361 add new protections for consumers against deceptive business practices. Specifically, it establishes that issuing a gift certificate or card that can only be redeemed by mail is deceptive unless the expiration date is clearly shown in writing. Additionally, it is now considered a deceptive practice for businesses to charge fees for updating billing or credit information when customers prefer to speak with a person instead of using an automated system. These changes are important because they aim to enhance consumer rights and make it easier for individuals to understand the terms of promotions and services.
