The updated version of Bill SB 2990 shifts the focus of the proposed tax from funding infrastructure improvements—including roads and sidewalks—to supporting tourism, parks, and recreation. This change matters because it reallocates funds to enhance leisure and tourism activities in the city, potentially boosting local businesses and community engagement in those areas. The new tax structure remains the same, with the governing authorities able to impose a tax of up to one percent on restaurant sales, but the intent behind the tax revenue has changed significantly.
