Plain-language change summary

The recent amendments to Bill HB 5492 introduce specific protections against patient abuse in freestanding emergency centers (FECs). The bill now explicitly states that no staff member in an FEC can abuse a patient and establishes clear reporting procedures for those who witness or suspect such abuse. It also prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports alleged abuse, which is crucial for encouraging victims and witnesses to come forward. This change aims to ensure a safer environment for patients and enhance accountability within emergency medical facilities.
