Plain-language change summary

The updated version of Bill HB 5000 introduces a pilot project aimed at providing low-cost laptops to students, teachers, and administrators at participating elementary schools, specifically those serving grades one through six. The bill outlines that these laptops should be affordable, costing under $400, and emphasizes the use of educational software and training to enhance academic performance. This change is significant because it aims to bridge the digital divide in education, ensuring that all students have access to the necessary technology to succeed in their learning environments. Additionally, the project is set to last at least two years, allowing for ample time to evaluate its effectiveness before any future decisions are made.
