Plain-language change summary

The recent amendment to Bill SB 488 makes county probation officers eligible for the same retirement benefits as sheriff's law enforcement employees. This change allows these probation officers to convert their previous service into a different retirement credit by paying the necessary fees, making it easier for them to gain full credit for their years of work. This matters because it strengthens the benefits for probation officers, acknowledging their important role in law enforcement and helping to retain qualified personnel in the field.
