Summary

Amends provisions of the Illinois Vehicle Code exempting vehicles meeting certain criteria from registration. Provides that those provisions do not prohibit the exempt vehicle from towing another vehicle if the towed vehicle does not exceed the registered weight of 8,000 pounds, is used exclusively for transportation to and from the work site, and is not used for carrying counter weights or other material related to the operation of the exempt vehicle while under tow.

Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill SB 2149 clarify the registration requirements for certain self-propelled agricultural vehicles. Now, these vehicles must register and pay a fee of $250, regardless of when they register during the year, and can only operate within a specific weight and speed limit. This change is important because it sets clear guidelines for these vehicles, ensuring they are safe and compliant on highways while supporting agricultural activities.
