Plain-language change summary

The amendments to Bill SB 581 have shifted its focus to better accommodate individuals with developmental disabilities. Previously, the bill aimed to establish a Community Residential Choices Program where individuals would be grouped by various characteristics and have specific living arrangements. Now, the revised version allows individuals meeting certain criteria, particularly those whose parents are over 60, to choose to live together in community-based residential programs, promoting greater independence and compatibility among residents. This change is significant as it emphasizes personal choice and tailored living situations for people with developmental disabilities, which can lead to improved quality of life.
