Plain-language change summary

The latest version of Bill SB 253 now includes a specific provision to help military members and their spouses maintain their residency status with their municipality while serving outside the area. Previously, the bill allowed individuals who had been away due to military service to be eligible for municipal office without needing to meet the one-year residency requirement after their return. This change clarifies that the time spent on active duty outside the municipality counts as residency, which is important for ensuring that military families can stay connected and participate in local governance.
