What changed in the latest version
60 added · 73 removedPlain-language change summary
The updated version of HB 235 includes a new provision that allows the court to consider evidence of a defendant's annual gross income when determining bail amounts for non-violent crimes. This change clarifies what constitutes gross income and emphasizes the responsible sourcing of bail funds. Overall, it aims to ensure that bail amounts are more fair and proportional to a defendant's financial situation, helping to prevent excessive bail that could unnecessarily keep low-income individuals in jail.
