The updated version of Senate Resolution 299 has removed specific references to "sludge being full of concentrated heavy metals," which adds concern about the type of pollution being discharged into Lake Michigan. It still emphasizes the significant increase in ammonia and total suspended solids being released by British Petroleum. This change matters because it shifts the focus away from the potential presence of heavy metals, which could downplay the overall environmental impact and risks associated with the new refining process and its effects on the lake's ecosystem.
