The recent amendments to Bill SB 2734 clarify how specific data from the Illinois Health and Hazardous Substances Registry can be accessed. The updated bill now clearly states that certain confidential data can be released to researchers and news media, but only after those groups receive approval from an Institutional Review Board to ensure the protection of human subjects. This change is important because it allows for greater transparency while still safeguarding sensitive information, aiding in medical research and informed public reporting.
