The recent amendments to SB 527 introduced significant changes, including the creation of the Interstate Compact for Juveniles Act, which allows Illinois to adopt an agreement regarding the treatment of juveniles across state lines. It also designates the Department of Juvenile Justice as the authority to manage this compact and outlines that they will work with the Department of Human Services for non-offender juveniles. This matters because it aims to improve the handling and cooperation of juvenile cases between states, ensuring better support for young individuals in the justice system.
