Plain-language change summary

The latest version of SB 6079 has shifted its focus from primarily reducing insurance policy nonrenewals and cancellations due to wildfire risk to establishing a wildfire mitigation grant program. This change means that the bill now provides grants specifically for real property owners, building contractors, and nonprofit organizations to support actions aimed at reducing wildfire risks for insurable homes. Additionally, the new version includes a broader range of recipients for the grants, such as tribes, which emphasizes inclusivity and recognition of tribal sovereignty in wildfire mitigation efforts. This shift is significant as it aims to enhance community resilience against wildfires by promoting proactive measures rather than just addressing insurance-related issues.
