This bill died with 2021-2022 Regular Session. It reached “In Committee” and never advanced before the session ended, so it can no longer move — a new version would have to be reintroduced in the current session.
This bill is no longer active — its legislative session has ended, so there is no live prognosis. It would have to be reintroduced in the current session to move again.
Summary
Existing law, as added by Proposition 7 of the November 7, 1978, statewide general election, and further amended by initiative statutes, provides that the penalty for a defendant found guilty of murder in the first degree is death or imprisonment in the state prison for life without the possibility of parole, if one or more enumerated special circumstances are found to be true. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to those provisions.
