The recent amendments to Bill H 937 clarify and expand the definitions of what constitutes profits from a crime. Specifically, it emphasizes that any income or property gained through sales related to criminal activity, including those benefits resulting from public notoriety due to a conviction, must be reported. This change matters because it ensures a more comprehensive approach to preventing individuals from profiting off of their criminal actions, thereby reaffirming the principle that crimes should not financially benefit the perpetrator. This could help deter criminal behavior and protect the integrity of the justice system.
