The latest version of the bill, SB 49, introduces specific requirements for funeral service directors who want to offer natural organic reduction, a method of disposing of bodies. It also provides legal protections for funeral establishments that follow proper authorization while carrying out this process, which could reduce their liability. Additionally, the bill now categorizes using remains from this process to grow food as unlawful, which highlights the importance of handling the remains respectfully. These changes are significant because they help ensure safety and ethical practices in the emerging field of natural organic reduction in funerals.
