The recent amendments to Bill H 3914 expand the definition of "account" in South Carolina law to include patronage capital accounts held by electric and telephone cooperatives. This change is significant because it formally recognizes these types of accounts in legal terms, which could impact how funds are managed and accounted for within these cooperatives. The amendment aims to clarify the rights and obligations related to these accounts for both cooperatives and their members, enhancing transparency and financial oversight. This legislation will take effect on July 1, 2025.
