The amendments to Bill S 234 change the way tips are treated in South Carolina's income tax calculations. The revised bill specifies that tips received by employees, whether in cash or electronically, will not be counted as part of their gross income for tax purposes. This is significant because it could result in lower tax liabilities for workers who depend on tips, potentially providing them with more take-home pay.
