The recent amendment to Bill S 538 in South Carolina specifies that tax exemptions for farm buildings and structures will now only apply to properties that qualify for the agricultural assessment ratio. Additionally, the bill now allows taxpayers to apply for refunds on any property taxes they overpaid if their property was eligible for this same agricultural assessment. These changes are significant because they aim to clarify eligibility for tax exemptions, helping farmers by potentially reducing their tax burden and providing a way to reclaim overpayments.
