The amendment to Bill H 3779 clarifies that tips will be excluded from the calculation of gross income for state income tax purposes in South Carolina. Specifically, it defines what constitutes a tip and ensures that any tips reported to an employer as required by federal law will not be considered taxable income. This change is significant because it can result in lower tax liabilities for employees in service industries who rely on tips, potentially increasing their take-home earnings.
